“Happy Coffee Song” captures that moment in the morning where you haven’t ingested enough caffeine to make you intelligible, but are nonetheless brimming with thanks to have hot java pouring down your gullet. The melody is simple, almost singsong, and the lyrics are nothing more than “Da Doo Wee, Da Doop Doop Da Doo Wee,” but this annoyingly cheerful ditty serves as an excellent eye-opener for Trey’s album One Man’s Trash. If you doubt this tune’s ability to get you on your feet, try setting it as your morning alarm. Odds are you’ll be out of bed before you can say “Joe!”
TAB only played “Happy Coffee Song” a cupful of times in 2001. The first performance of what Trey described as “just a little, kind-of dancey tune” was dedicated to Paul Languedoc on 2/22/2001. Acting primarily as a vehicle for horn solos, “Happy Coffee Song” would make five more appearances, and was good the last drop, which came on 7/29/2001.
